With the approach of the Dragon Boat Festival, the School of International Education held a cultural experience activity for foreign teachers and students on June 2, 2023, with the theme of "Perceiving the Dragon Boat Festival and Talking about Tradition".

At the beginning of the event, teachers from the School of International Education introduced the historical and cultural heritage of the Dragon Boat Festival and its traditional customs to the foreign teachers and students, hoping that they would feel the profound connotation of Chinese traditional culture while learning Chinese.

Then the second part was to make zongzi. With the help of Professor Huang, Chair of the College Council, the foreign teachers and students picked up the leaves, folded and filled them with sticky rice, and tied the strings. After half an hour, the "works" of the students and teachers were put on the table one after another.

Then a unique competition—egg balancing started. It is said that the Dragon Boat Festival is the heaviest festival in terms of yang energy, so the egg can be made to stand upright. If anyone who can stand an egg upright will have good luck for the year because he or she has absorbed the yang energy of heaven and earth. So everyone carefully and brainstormingly fought to make the eggs stand up.

The last part of the event, making sachet, was the most interesting. Everyone put herbs into their favorite brocade cloth to make different styles of sachets. Each exquisite and small scented bag wrapped a sincere blessing, refreshing the heart.

This experience deepened foreign teachers and students' understanding of the history and culture of the Dragon Boat Festival and fully experienced the charm of Chinese traditional culture. It opened a door for foreign teachers and students to get closer to Chinese culture and made them feel the warmth from a foreign country.
